A waning crescent ritual for releasing what doesn't cross with you.
We're three days out from the New Moon in Scorpio.
The moon is a thin waning crescent right now: the dark part of the cycle, the part that asks you to stop adding and start releasing. Whatever you're carrying that doesn't belong in the next chapter gets set down here, in the quiet before the reset.
Scorpio New Moons don't do gentle beginnings. They do honest ones. So before the moon plants something new, let's clear the ground.
✨ SPELL
This ritual isn’t about belief. It’s about repair.
Capitalism has broken your relationship to time—flattened your rhythms, punished your rest, and convinced you every moment must be productive.
The moon disagrees.
Each new and full moon, I’ll hand you a small ritual. Not to “manifest” or optimize, but to reattune your body to a different pace. One that honors cycles, not calendars.
Pay attention to the moon. It’s not aesthetic—it’s antidote.
Water for Pre-New Moon Release
A waning crescent ritual for clearing what you don't want to carry forward.
Supplies:
A glass of water
Paper and pen
Steps:
Write one thing (a pattern, a story, a version of yourself) that you're ready to leave on this side of the New Moon.
Hold the glass of water over the paper.
Say aloud: “I release this before the reset. I choose what crosses with me.”
Drink the water slowly.
Fold the paper and recycle or compost it.
The New Moon plants. The waning crescent clears the ground first. This is that clearing.
✊ HEX
You don’t need a rundown of the headlines. You’re living them. Whether you’re in the U.S. or just suffering under its ripple effects, the harm is real—and relentless.
This isn’t catharsis. It’s counter-spell.
Each HEX is a ritual of refusal—a channel for holy rage, spiritual disruption, and deliberate, directed dissent.
Here’s who we’re targeting. And what to do about it.
Celebrate. And.
Take a breath. A real one.
I spent Tuesday night deep-breathing through live streams and refreshing two screens, while having a glass of wine. I spent Wednesday hope-scrolling and celebrating with strangers. And I want to say this very clearly: We deserve this.
We deserve the relief. We deserve to exhale. We deserve the effervescence of a collective hope we haven’t felt in a decade.
An extremely diverse coalition of Democrats won the House and the Senate. They flipped Senate seats in Texas, Kansas, and South Carolina. They won House seats in districts Republicans redrew to stop them. They claimed state legislative positions, governorships, and other seats of electoral power down ballots in numbers that seemed unimaginable not that long ago.
Republicans redrew the maps. We showed up anyway.
You did that. Voters did that. Organizers, group chats, rides to the polls, people who stayed in line. We deserve to celebrate the outcomes of all of that work.
And.
We also deserve leadership that matches the moment.
Here’s where things stand. Senate Democrats choose their leader by secret ballot in early December, and Chuck Schumer says he’ll be re-elected. Seven incoming senators have said publicly they won’t vote for him, as of the moment I’m writing this. In a recent NBC poll, only 13 percent of registered voters viewed his leadership positively. A lot of us haven’t forgotten the shutdown vote last fall, when eight members of his own caucus helped Republicans end it. In the House, Hakeem Jeffries is expected to be elected Speaker on January 3, and members describe the support as wide but not deep.
A mandate is not a coronation. Voters gave Democrats a majority. They did not give anyone a lifetime lease on the gavel.
None of this cancels the celebration. We can pop the champagne and read the roster in the same breath.
So today we bless the people who did the work.
We hex the notion that we need to simply be grateful and be quiet.
We hex the idea that a win means that we stop asking.
We hex any leadership that treats a mandate like a trophy instead of a job.
And you can do something about it this week. Because this win is not the finish line.
📞 Action
If you have Democratic representation, call them. Only Democratic members of Congress vote in these elections, so call yours. The Capitol switchboard is 202-224-3121. Ask for your senator or representative by name. Find yours at senate.gov and house.gov.
Your script, about 20 seconds:
“Hi, I’m [name], a constituent from [town]. I’m calling to ask [Senator/Representative ___] to support new leadership for Democrats. Voters just gave Democrats a mandate, and I want leaders who will fight like it. Please support a real, competitive leadership election. Thank you.”
If your members are Republicans, send this to a group chat in a state with Democratic senators and ask five people to make the call.
With ground cleared and the reset three days out,
