Leo season ends tonight. Here's what it asked of you.

A ritual for the threshold between fire and earth.

Today is the last full day of Leo season.

Tomorrow the sun crosses into Virgo, and the energy shifts from fire and visibility and the bold, cracked-open aftermath of eclipse season into something quieter and more precise. Earth energy. Discernment. The question of what, specifically, you're going to do with everything that opened last month.

But today we're still in Leo. Still in the fire. Still in the space that asked you to be seen, to be honest about what you want, to stop performing smallness as a social strategy.

Leo season, with a total solar eclipse in it, is not a quiet season. It asked something of you. Before we step into Virgo and start organizing the rubble, let's acknowledge what it was.

Two days ago, the Founders Gathering happened inside The Spiral Path. If you were there, I hope you felt what I felt. Something real beginning. Something worth tending. If you weren't, know that the community is alive and building, and there's still room for you inside it.

✨ SPELL

  • Even when the moon isn’t new or full, we don’t have to wait for a “special” sky to practice reclaiming ourselves.

Ritual isn’t about the calendar—it’s about interrupting the grind, reorienting to what matters, and reminding yourself you’re not just here to produce.

Here’s a ritual for this week, aligned with the current zodiacal season. Minimal supplies. Maximum reclamation.

Fire into Earth

A Leo-to-Virgo threshold ritual for honoring what was and preparing for what's next.

Supplies:

  • A candle

  • A piece of paper

  • Pen

Steps:

Light your candle.

Write one thing Leo season asked of you: one truth it surfaced, one thing it cracked open, one way it changed you.

Read it aloud.

Fold the paper toward you to claim it.

Place it under the candle.

Say: "I carry this into the next season. I let it become something useful."

Blow out the candle when it feels complete.

Leo season ends. Virgo season begins. What you learned in the fire becomes the material you build with.

✊ HEX

  • You don’t need a rundown of the headlines. You’re living them. Whether you’re in the U.S. or just suffering under its ripple effects, the harm is real—and relentless.

    This isn’t catharsis. It’s counter-spell.

Each HEX is a ritual of refusal—a channel for holy rage, spiritual disruption, and deliberate, directed dissent.

Here’s who we’re targeting. And what to do about it.

We Found Out From Each Other

Let me tell you what I didn't learn from the mainstream news this week.

I didn't learn from CNN that tens of thousands of people in northwest Indiana have been without power for more than a week. That seven people have died since the storms hit on August 11. That more than 20,000 customers in Gary, a majority Black city, are lining up at community centers for hot meals and a place to charge their phones. That full restoration isn't expected until August 25. That the winds hit 99 mph and took out 300 poles. That people are on their second blackout. That food in deep freezers packed with beef and chicken is being thrown away. That a 4-year-old boy is dead.

I learned that from regular people on social media.

I didn't learn from MS NOW that Virginia State University (an HBCU founded in 1882, one of Virginia's two land-grant institutions, a school that just had its biggest ranking jump in history) held a joyful pinning ceremony for 1,500 new freshmen on a Friday night. That Cam Newton told them to pursue their grandest goals. That hours later, five people were shot outside the residence halls. That one person is in critical condition. That a suspect was found hiding in a campus closet more than 12 hours later. That classes were supposed to start Monday.

I learned that from regular people on social media.

I didn't even learn from NPR about the pattern of Black people found hanging from trees, deaths ruled as suicides before investigations were complete. About Trey Reed, found hanging at Delta State, with injuries his family said made self-hanging physically impossible. About Nolan Wells and Tamla Horsford. About documentation of more than 70 suspected modern-day lynchings in the Deep South since 2000, with at least 22 Black individuals dead under unusual or suspicious hanging circumstances between March 2025 and August 2026 alone.

I learned that from regular people on social media.

And need I remind you? Black people don’t hang themselves from trees.

This is not accidental.
What gets covered shapes what gets outrage.
What gets outrage shapes what gets accountability.
What gets accountability shapes what changes.

The media doesn't just report on power. It distributes it.

These circumstances are the predictable result of a system that has always decided whose crisis is visible and whose is background noise.

So today we hex the silence.

We hex the algorithm that decides a story isn't worth covering.
We hex the editorial rooms that have never looked like the communities they're supposed to serve.
We hex the infrastructure — literal and media — that fails the same communities over and over.
We hex the background noise that is actually someone's emergency.

And we bless the regular people with phones.

The ones posting from Gary.
The ones filming at VSU.
The ones saying the names that the news won't say.
The ones making sure we find out from each other when the institutions fail us.

That's not a consolation prize.
That's how movements start.

🔥 On Visibility

What gets covered gets accountability. What gets buried gets repeated. We found out from each other. Keep telling each other.

📞 Action

If you want to support the people in northwest Indiana:
Capital B Gary is a Black-led local news outlet that has been covering this extensively and has published a full resource guide
here. You can support the news outlet directly or any of the resources listed.

And if you're in Indiana, call your state legislators and demand an independent audit of NIPSCO's infrastructure and rate increases. The number is 317-232-9600.

With fire honored and earth ready,
Keli Lyn Jewel

PS: Something quiet is coming at the end of the month. An invitation I'll only be extending to this list and a few people I know personally. Not a social media announcement. Not a public launch. Just a door, opened briefly, for the right people. More on that soon.
